SCUBA · Where Gear Keeper began
Born underwater,Gear always ready.
Two divers started Gear Keeper because they were tired of losing gear to the blue. So Gear Keeper was born with a mission to keep gear always ready. Consoles, lights, cameras and slates stay tethered, streamlined and protected by Salt Water Resistant technology. Made in the USA.

Where it started
Two divers.
One problem worth solving.
Gear Keeper started with two divers who had a problem they couldn't buy their way out of. Consoles dragged on the reef. Lights slipped away in the current. Ordinary retractors rusted solid after one season of salt. So they built one that could handle salt water, dive after dive. Today Gear Keeper also tethers gear for anglers, hunters and pros on the job. SCUBA is still our foundation.

Salt Water Resistant technology
Salt eats gear.
Ours is built for it.
Salt and sand kill ordinary retractors. The spring corrodes, grit jams the line, and one day it stops coming back. Gear Keeper SCUBA retractors are engineered for salt water from the inside out, the same technology that started the company.
-
Patented flushing system
Fresh water flows through the housing and carries salt and sand back out after the dive.
-
Saltwater-grade hardware
Stainless steel, brass and high-impact clips that hold up to constant immersion.
-
Spectra/Nylon line
Rated 60–80 lb break strength on console and light retractors.
-
Q/C-II quick connect
Disconnect a console or light in seconds to rinse it, charge it or pack it.

Salt water flushing instructions
Flush with fresh water after every saltwater dive to keep the spring and line running smooth.
Purpose-built
A clip and a coil isn't dive gear.
A console, a canister light and a slate pencil all weigh different amounts, ride in different places and live in salt water. A wrist lanyard ties up your hands. A coiled lanyard drags and dangles. So each Gear Keeper is built for the gear it holds.
On the dive
Six places a generic tether lets you down, and how ours holds up.

Dangling
Salt and sand
Gear Keeper: Salt Water Resistant, with a flushing system that rinses salt and grit out of the housing.
Generic: The spring corrodes in a season and grit jams the line.
Retraction force
Gear Keeper: Matched to the gear: 24 oz for consoles, 9–12 oz for lights, 2.5 oz for slates and whistles.
Generic: One spring for everything. It fights your light and can't hold a console.
On the reef
Gear Keeper: Streamlined. Gauges stay tight to your BC, so nothing drags or snags.
Generic: Hoses hang loose and drag through coral and silt.
Your hands
Gear Keeper: Your light reaches arm's length, up to 42". Let go and it goes back to your chest.
Generic: A wrist lanyard ties up your hand. A coil tangles in your hoses.
Topside
Gear Keeper: Locking models hold a light or camera snug on the boat. Unlock to dive.
Generic: It swings free and bangs into the tank rack on a rolling deck.
Who builds it
Gear Keeper: Founded by divers and made in the USA.
Generic: Whoever makes it cheapest.

A console drags through coral. A light slips off your wrist in the current. A slate pencil sinks past 60 feet. Clip each one where your hand already reaches.
Hip: gauge console
24 oz holds the console tight to your BC. Pull it up to eye level with 32" of reach, read it and let go.

Born in SCUBA
It started underwater. It didn't stay there.
If a retractor survives salt water, it can handle a trout stream or a duck blind. The engineering that keeps a console on your BC now keeps nets on anglers and calls on hunters.

Straight answers on sizing, mounting and saltwater care.
Which retractor does my gear need?
Match it to the weight. For a gauge console, choose the RT3 (24 oz, 32" reach, hip or chest) or the compact RT4 (18" reach, chest). For lights and cameras, choose RT4 Small for up to 4 AA batteries, RT4 Medium for up to 8 AA and RT3 Large Locking for up to 8 D. For small tools like a whistle, lobster gauge or slate pencil, choose the RT5 Micro at 2.5 oz.
How do I care for it after a saltwater dive?
Flush it with fresh water after every saltwater dive, just like your reg and BC. The patented flushing system lets fresh water carry salt and sand back out of the housing. Watch the video for the exact steps.
Brass, stainless, HD snap or combo mount?
Brass bolt clips and stainless steel snaps are metal options for BC D-rings and straps. The 1" HD rotating snap has a stainless gate and is easy to work with gloves on. The combo mount includes both a snap clip and a threaded stud, so you can mount through webbing. To mount an RT3 on 1" to 2" webbing or a weight belt, add the RT3 mounting bracket.
What does the locking mechanism do?
On land and on the boat, it holds your light or camera snug against the housing. Unlock it before you dive. The moderate 12 oz force keeps the gear secure without tiring your arm.
What is Q/C-II?
It's our quick connect. Detach your console or light in seconds to rinse, charge or pack it, then snap it back on. With extra Q/C-II male connectors, you can move one retractor between several lights.
